Most car sites show you what they want to sell. We would rather show you what people actually love — and let them decide what is best.
A Leaderboard First
Shifters is built around The Grid: a running leaderboard of American muscle cars, put up by the people who own them, photograph them, or simply stopped in the street to look at them.
Anyone can enter a car. Anyone can rev it or stall it. There is no account to make and no fee to pay, and the only thing that decides the order is the vote. The car at the top holds pole position until something better rolls up.
We check every entry by hand before it goes on the grid. American muscle only — the intermediates, pony cars and big-blocks from the mid sixties to the mid seventies, and the turbo and supercharged cars that picked the idea up again later.

A leaderboard is only worth anything if people trust it. These are the rules.
American muscle only
No hot hatches, no Japanese imports, no Italian exotica. If it wasn't built in Detroit, Kenosha or thereabouts, it doesn't go on the grid.
Checked by hand
Every entry is looked at by a person before it goes live. Spam, adverts and anything that isn't a car never reaches the grid.
One vote per car
You can rev or stall each car once, and change your mind whenever you like. No accounts, no buying votes, no weighting.
Credit where due
Every photo carries its photographer's name. If a photo is yours and you want it taken down, email us and it goes.
And We Deal In Them
Alongside The Grid, we buy and sell American muscle. Everything we list is bought in person, and we will happily tell you what is wrong with a car before you ask.
The stock list moves in fits and starts, because we would rather run a short list of cars we know inside out than a long one we don't. If there is nothing on the floor, tell us what you are after and we will go looking.
Things people ask
Do I need an account to vote?
No. Your vote is tied to your browser, one per car. Clear your cookies and the site forgets you voted, which is the trade-off for not making anyone sign up.
Why was my photo rejected?
Usually because it wasn't American muscle, wasn't a car, or showed a number plate or face the owner might not want online. Email us if you think we got it wrong.
Will an American car survive a British winter?
Only if you keep it off gritted roads. Salt is the thing that genuinely destroys these cars. Dry storage over winter and they will outlast you.
Can I part exchange?
